A Brighton man has been left stunned after the discovery of a large, interconnected network of tunnels that lay underneath his home.

Freddy Goodall, 23, made the shocking discovery after finding and inspecting old photos of the 500-year-old house, noticing an unusual doorway in previous shots of the house’s library which no longer existed in the present home.

After investigating his find, Freddy came up empty until he stumbled across a hole hidden behind some books on a bookshelf, looking through it to see a secret room that he never knew existed.

As part of his documentation into the process, he made a TikTok video, where within it you see Freddy clearing away the books from the shelves before removing the screws on the piece of wood.

When this wood is removed, behind it is seen to be an empty room with no light, which on further inspection also uncovered a second panel attached to the floor, which led to a secret corridor into the tunnels and a series of unseen rooms.

The house itself was then found to have many other secret spaces, with a larger room in the ceiling that contained a passageway to the basement and two more secret rooms with even more corridors.

It is believed many of these discovered networks were used by the servants of the house to move undetected by the landlords to complete their tasks and escape their wrath.

Further discoveries included an old safe containing documents dating back to 1848 where books were filled with information about the house and old schoolbooks and desks were found from when the large property functioned as an educational establishment.

Rather than make use of the rooms, Freddy has decided to keep them as they are, so that he can preserve the history of the house and keep its heritage alive.
