Gigs of the week: 11th – 17th February

As always we have handpicked some of the best gigs on in Brighton and Hove for you to enjoy. We’ve gone for a predominantly indie-theme this week, with romantic pop to celebrate Valentines Day, alongside some Rock, punk, folk and even a drop of grime.

The Howlers @ The Green Door Store, Monday 11th February

The Howlers are gaining a reputation for their ‘ferocious live performances and abrasive attitude to the modern music industry’. Join them at the Green Door Store for an evening of alternative Rock, with support from School Disco and Common Palate.

Beach Riot @ The Green Door Store, Tuesday 12th February

After smashing both the Reading and Leeds BBC introducing stage, ahead of the release of their self-titled EP of exquisiteness in December, Brighton-based Beach Riot will be headlining a debut show at The Green Door Store this Tuesday. Joining them are Frank and Beans, Cutting Ties, and Stone Cold Fiction. Head down for Alt-Psych, Garage, Anti-Punk and Post-Hardcore sound, with all profits being donated to Samaritans.

Jimothy Lacoste @ Concorde, Wednesday 13th February

Jimmy Lacoste is an introspective artist with a left-of-center outlook on his North London life. His music has moments of being Mike Skinner-esque, and sometimes parallels North London dance-grime-electro collective Man like Me, but his mature, considered focus on internal struggle makes him an original. Head down to Concorde to see what this 18 year old is all about.

Night Flowers @ Komedia, Thursday 14th February

Night Flowers is an indie-pop band that was formed when good friends from North England collided with Boston, Massachusetts born vocalist
Sophia Pettit. Since then their dreamlike atmospherics, created by a stunning combination of sunny vocals and cheerful guitar, have gained them a global fan-base. Join them this Valentines Day for an evening of heart-stirring, romantic pop and joyousness.

FUR @ Patterns, Friday 15th February

Brighton-based indie band FUR is one to watch this year. Their 60’s inflected ‘If You Know That I’m Lonely’ (which has reached over five million views on youtube), and their debut EP ‘What Would I Do?’ is gaining them an ever-increasing fanbase. Watch them perform in the town they still call home this Friday at Patterns.

King King @ Concorde, Saturday 16th February

Glasgow-based King King have been hailed as “the best blues-rock band in the world” by the Blues Rock Review and their most recent edgy, rocky album ‘Exile & Grace’ was crowned the Classic Rock’s Blues Album of the Year. There’s no denying the momentum of these rockers. They are playing at Concorde as part of their UK tour, with support from Sari Schorr.

Gwenifer Raymond and more @ The Prince Albert, Sunday 17th February

The Prince Albert is holding another TST winter warmer with a quality line up. Rising start Gwenifer Raymond will be performing alongside previous favorites, Markers, Sairie, and Fane. Enjoy a pint to an eclectic mix of folk throughout the afternoon.
