It’s Summer! Well sort of…the clocks have gone back and it’s not snowing anymore so it’s as summer-like as Brighton will be for a while. There’s a huge amount of live music and club nights this week but we’ve collated the best of the best so you don’t have to.

Monday
Kicking off the week in the style, the ARIES Session comes to The Hope & Ruin for their pick of the best and most interesting new music. Headlining the gig is BRUCH and her ethereal and eclectic own take on alt-folk. Her music has touches of Grimes with touches of much-loved local artist Cosmo Sheldrake. She has been featured on BBC introducing and was most recently listed as a ‘2018 ones to watch’ act on the ‘BBC introducing: Solent’s’ episode. Support comes from Andy Ruddy and Ryan Burman. Ruddy has performed on the popular youtube session channel ‘Ont Sofa’ and Burman’s debut single has also been featured on BBC introducing. Tickets are £5 in advance and on the door, with a student discount available with a valid ID.

Tuesday
Semi-local boys Gloo bring their “pop-laced noise punk” (Wall of Sound) to the stage of Green Door. The Littlehampton natives released their single ‘Force You’ through their very own DIY label Dropping Bags Records last year and have been receiving praise for it ever since. Gloo tap into the much-loved and much done teenage angst type of rock but they come into their own with their melodic riffs and tales of living in a stale seaside town. Commonly given reference points for their music range from Dinosaur Jr to The Stooges but it’s definitely better if you see them live and make that choice for yourself. They’ve been supported by music publications such as Punktastic and The Unsigned Guide and have been given unfaltering support by Amazing Radio, BBC introducing and Kerrang! Radio. You can catch Gloo and their supports – Phoxjaw, Guising and Winchester UK – on Tuesday evening for free!

boy pablo started his solo project in 2016 much like many other bedroom pop artists, on Bandcamp. In the space of two short years he has released 3 singles and a 6 track EP. The easiest comparisons to make would be that of Mild High Club, Yellow Days with a big ol’ hint of Mac DeMarco. The Norway-based artist has a cult following much like the bands he’s often compared to, so naturally tickets for this show were almost like gold-dust. Melting Vinyl celebrate 20 years of their business for creative freelance live music promoters. If you’ve ever gone to more than one music event in Brighton, chances are one of the promoters would have been Melting Vinyl. This Thursday they present five acts, with some new kids on the block and some who have grown up with the business as it grew itself. They will naturally cover all the musical bases with acts varying from indie, classical and electronica. Their birthday party is a Brighton Dome SPECTRUM event and is part of their extensive season celebrating the best of Brighton’s music scene. It’s a packed line-up with 5 different acts taking the stage from 7:30pm onwards. They are Oddfellow’s Casino, Collectress, Foreign Skin, Twenty-One Crows and Bella Spinks, with Dan Breaden playing a fully-improvised performance in the bar area. It’s not one to miss, you can buy tickets from the Dome and Resident Records and can see more about the event here.

For the next fix of Brighton’s best kept secret, The Cowley Club will be taken over by some of the best hardcore punk bands in the UK right now. Headlining are The Wound, who will bring a guaranteed fist-pumping, head-banging crowd with them. Support is killer for this show with The Shits, Telekinesis, Child’s Pose and The Worms all making their way to Brighton to show off their incredible music. Telekinesis have been sorely missed on the punk scene in Brighton, with their last show here all the way back in November. There’s only one Brighton band on this bill so it’s a good opportunity to see what the New Wave of British Hardcore has to offer. It’s an 8pm start with a £5 door fee but in the true punk spirit, no-one will be turned away for lack of funds. Start your weekend off with something a little different!
