After five long weeks of renovation, popular neighbourhood pub the Hollingbury reopened its doors this week and got the pints flowing once again.

Owner Lianne Halstead welcomed dozens of loyal locals to the re-opening event this Monday evening, along with Councillors Tracey Hill and Caroline Penn. Star Wars and Pirates of the Caribbean actor Steve Spiers, who lives in the area, also popped in for a drink.

Thanks to a £311,000 investment by national operator Punch, the local is now back to its best with a new-look exterior and interior, including new furnishings, flooring and toilets. A new bar was also introduced as part of the transformation, along with a pub kitchen serving hot snacks. The pub is now laid out in various zones for drinking, watching sport, and entertainment.

Janne Sedgwick, the openings manager for Punch, said: “It was great to see the pub buzzing again with so many familiar local faces.

“The Hollingbury proudly offers all the ingredients that go into making a quality British pub; great service, a fantastic drinks range and a busy programme of sport and entertainment.

“I am confident it will continue to play a vital role in the community and has a bright future ahead.”

Following the facelift, the Hollingbury’s garden is gleaming – updated furniture, lighting, fencing, planting, signage and surfacing were all put in in a bid to prepare the area for spring and summer. The pub says it’s an excellent family establishment, where kids can play in the sunshine while their parents relax with a drink.
