Members of Stop the War Brighton and Hove (STWBH) protested inside Brighton Station on Wednesday to mark 130 days of conflict in the Israel-Gaza war.
STWBH also protested against Israel’s recent attacks in the Palestinian city of Rafah, which has been a safe zone for many displaced Palestinians.
STWBH wanted to highlight the alleged failure of MPs, including Hove Labour MP Peter Kyle, to call for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
Maggie Clifford, STWBH member, said: “We wanted a public space to draw attention to the situation in Gaza and express solidarity.
“Our secondary aim is to give a strong, visible message to politicians that we want them to stop sending weapons to Israel.”
Other activists were at this protest, including members of the Stop L3Harris campaign, who are demanding that local arms factory L3Harris stop producing parts for weapons used by Israel.
A spokesperson for the Stop L3Harris campaign said: “Through its sale of arms, the UK is complicit in Israel’s genocidal assault on Palestinians.
“We are horrified that there is a factory which has a long and well-known history of making weapons parts being used to kill Palestinians.
“We don’t want a weapons factory on our doorstep, and we don’t agree with workers having to be complicit in a genocide.”
On March 6, Brighton and Hove City Council will discuss L3Harris’s planning application to make a temporary factory extension permanent, a plan which has garnered over 800 public objections.
National and local Jewish groups were also at this protest, including Na’amod, who gave speeches and expressed their solidarity with Palestine.
STWBH hopes to influence a debate in parliament on February 21 in which the SNP is bringing a motion to ask the government to ask for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.
This protest did not cause any travel disruptions at Brighton Station.
