The youngest son of former boxing champion Chris Eubank has been urged to reflect on his actions, even after being acquitted of raping a girl on Brighton beach.

Joseph Eubank, 27, walked free from Lewes Crown Court after a jury found him not guilty of two counts of raping the 16-year-old in July 2022. Although he was cleared of the charges, the court took the opportunity to express strong disapproval of his conduct during the events that led to the trial.

“You do have to reflect on your behaviour; it was not decent in any way, shape, or form,” remarked Her Honour Judge Christine Laing KC following the unanimous verdict. While Eubank was acquitted of the criminal charges, the judge emphasized that his behaviour on the night in question had raised significant concerns, even if it did not meet the threshold for legal punishment.

“You need to think seriously about your behaviour, Mr. Eubank,” Judge Laing continued, reiterating that his actions, though not deemed criminal, were inappropriate and lacked decency. The case serves as a reminder that actions, particularly in sensitive situations, can have a profound impact, regardless of legal outcomes.

Though Eubank has been legally exonerated, the court’s message was clear: personal responsibility and ethical conduct must not be overlooked. The judge’s remarks highlighted the importance of self-reflection and understanding the consequences of one’s actions, especially in situations involving vulnerable individuals. Despite the acquittal, the incident has sparked conversations about the boundaries of acceptable behaviour and the moral obligations that extend beyond the law.
