Let’s take a look at some of the top sports headlines from in and around Brighton.

In County Championship Cricket, rain halted Northamptonshire’s victory charge against Sussex at Arundel. Northants’ Azarullah took 6-68 and an Adam Rossington century put them firmly in control, but bad light and rain interrupted proceedings on the final day. Chris Nash and Ed Joyce provided stern resistance for Sussex, with each hitting a half century.

Elsewhere for Sussex Cricket, the Sharks fell 12 runs short of victory in their Natwest T20 Blast fixture against Gloucestershire on Sunday. Despite good figures of 3-26 for Ajmal Shahzad and a quickfire 71 from captain Luke Wright, Gloucs’ 184-4 proved too big a hurdle to overcome as Sussex finished on 173-9.

Sussex also look set for a boost to their squad after head coach Mark Davis suggested that there may be an all-rounder soon signing as well as the returning Chris Jordan from England duty. You can read more about the Sharks’ recent endeavours here.

Injured Brighton and Hove Albion duo Solly March and Uwe Huenemeier are to miss out on the Seagulls’ pre-season training camp in Tenerife. Manager Chris Hughton was quoted as saying it would be best for them to continue their rehab “back at the training ground”.

Luton Town have signed Brighton ‘keeper Christian Walton on a season-long loan deal. The 20-year-old, capped for England’s U19 and U20 teams, hasn’t played for Brighton in over a year and so will be in search of some first team football up in Luton.

Manchester United look set to loan out striker James Wilson given their crowded forward line. The young English attacker spent the 2015/16 season on loan at Brighton and a number of Championship clubs are reportedly already after his signature; however, it remains to be seen if Brighton will swoop for him again.
