The Natwest T20 Blast competition is now in full swing and with Sussex Sharks lying in fourth place in the Southern group, they could be set to receive a huge windfall in personnel.
Indeed, Sharks’ head coach Mark Davis has suggested that he will look to secure a signing in lieu of playing either Bangladesh seamer Mustazifur Rahman, who is still two weeks away from selection, or South Africa’s David Wiese. Davis told the Argus that he would be “looking to bring in an all-rounder” for the back-to-back games against Kent and Middlesex, while he also revealed another exciting piece of news.
Paul Farbrace, assistant to Trevor Bayliss in the England national setup, supposedly confirmed to Davis that England seamer Chris Jordan would be available despite still being on international duty. This would be a huge boon to Sussex, who struggled to control the Gloucestershire batsmen during Sunday’s Blast fixture.
Jordan, who bowls both with the new ball and at the death of the innings for England, could prove vital to their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages of the competition. If the Sharks can keep it tight in the final two or three overs as well as keep Luke Wright hitting as straight and true as in his last outing, they will surely be in line for improved performances with bat and ball in the near future.
It is possible that Sussex could be hampered by the number of temporary personnel changes, as team chemistry is vital to any winning formula, but if they can bring in a player of Rahman or Wiese’s quality, it could be a fascinating climax to the South Group stage.
