As sexuality and other progressive movements slowly look to take steps to further inclusion and integration, certain corners of the web have taken to creating an alternative sexuality aimed at protecting ‘straight’ culture.
The new creation known as ‘Super Straight’ is an attempt by Reddit users, Tic Tockers and other sites to help provide representation for those people who are so straight they could not possibly have attraction to a Trans person due to their birth gender.
Despite being a general haven for the LGBT community, the online environment is also seen as a place where minority offensive groups push Trans and Homophobic agendas In an aggressive fashion.
However, this particular issue came into notoriety due to the fact that the posts, comments and hashtags were being removed and banned from the sites almost as quick as they could be spread and uploaded.
Reddit banned the ‘Super Straight’ subreddit due to the promotion of hate towards the marginalised or vulnerable groups that they perpetrated through their content, and Tik Tok has removed all the previously existing content except a hashtag called ‘#superstraights’ which is actually being used to criticise the attempts of the movement whilst highlighting the causes surrounding the Transgender community.
Much humour has also been aimed at the movement for their use of a black and orange colour scheme to represent their ideas, with both popular gay app Grindr and pornographic website Pornhub both using those colours whilst promoting the LGBT community.
The movement is believed to also stretch beyond basic opposition with the ambition to stop cancel culture and use the LGBT cause as a way to avoid criticism through claims that ‘Super Straight’ or ‘SS’ is actually a sexual orientation and therefore impossible to be transphobic.
This however is heavily disputed due to the fact that while everyone is free to choose an identity that represents them, if your chosen category happens to be based around the opposition to another then this is not freedom and instead prejudice.
There is some conversation that parts of the movement were born out of a feeling that people felt forced to have attraction to Trans people due to the ideals of equality, yet there is no substantial proof to support this claim and also to justify what is seen as oppression.
It is believed that this group among others will prove to be a short-term emergence and nothing that will last.
