Brighton’s eco-friendly bus service, ‘The Big Lemon’ is collaborating with Woodland Trust on 15th December to plant thousands of trees in Surrey. The company hopes to take “a coach full of lovely folk from Brighton & Hove” to take part in a bid to tackle climate change.

Bus company practices community, sustainability and innovation

The Big Lemon is loved in Brighton for its sustainable approach to bus services, also known as the busses that run on recycled chip fat. Their friendly service has raised awareness of the need for more zero-emission public transport services.

The company is run entirely by people in the community and its a registered Community Interest Company (CIC), meaning it runs with the intention to create community benefit, not just profit.

In 2017, The Big Lemon launched the UK’s first solar powered bus, and are now in the process of converting their entire bus fleet to run electrically.

In light of the United Nation’s recent report that claimed we have just 12 years left to dramatically reduce global warming and catastrophic climate change, The Big Lemon have pledged to plant thousands of trees! The company said: “We’re going to plant trees! Thousands of them! What better way to impact climate change than to plant a tree?”

On 15th December 2018, it is hoped that up to 600 people from Brighton & Hove will take part in the Community Wood Planting project in association with Woodland Trust. Thousands of trees will be planted in the hopes that it will make a positive impact to the environment.

When: The Big Lemon will be leaving Brighton at 8.30am from The Old Steine (Bus Stop S) and leaving Langley Vale at 3.30pm to hopefully be back in Brighton by 5pm.
