The Difference A Week Makes- Why Brighton May Now Have Breathing Room

Seven days ago, the possibility of a Brighton and Hove Albion relegation seemed very much real as they languished only a couple of points above the 18th position.

Now, after 2 wins in a row it seems that all those good performances have finally started to get the points they deserved.

Compare this with those teams currently below The Seagulls, and it looks like this cushion may be all that’s needed to keep safe from the drop.

Newcastle United currently occupying 17th look like a team heading in the wrong direction.

With now only 3 points in 6 games, their run of form looks like one which will struggle to match what Brighton can achieve in the remaining 9 premier league games to be played.

Brighton should have the ability to gain 7 points as an average versus a Newcastle team who are more likely to achieve 8/9 whilst still being 4 points behind after Saturdays 3-0 defeat.

Fulham sit 2 points below Newcastle with only 8 games remaining and so hope they can even leave the relegation zone is slowly fading.

What this means is following on current momentum and the effect it has clearly had for the team, there seems a much greater hope that rather than looking behind they can even look to creep into a better position by the seasons end.

Currently there is a 3-point gap between Brighton and 13th placed Wolverhampton Wanderers who themselves alongside Southampton are on a much worse run of form with both Wolves and Brighton both facing off in 4 weeks’ time.

Key players like Leandro Trossard and Robert Sanchez are providing crucial performances, with the team having looked full of intent for weeks even without winning there now may exist that crucial element to finish on a great high.

A 13th placed finish when relegation was a concern would be the perfect opportunity for Graham Potter and Brighton to only now look forward to the chance to build upon it next season.
