The Indiana Effect

If you happened to be walking past Patterns on Wednesday night you may have heard the pangs of teenage angst and aggression. This would not have been your imagination. It was the volume of Rory Indiana. These guys pack a punch when they play and it’s hard not to feed off their energy. Lead vocalist and guitarist Rory has a tone that resembles Amy Winehouse and a conviction that brings in influences of Simon Neil.

The sheer attitude of this guy makes the mind boggle. His command of the stage only reflects the venom and conviction of his melodies and lyrics. The angst just falls from his shoulders.

The rest of the band only mirrors Rory’s persona. They throw themselves about the stage with no fear or hesitation at all. Guitarist Ben especially caught my attention for this constant parade around the stage, he may have only had a small section to perform in, but by golly he used the lot.

The sheer aggression of the vocal and guitar melodies will appeal to the anger of youth. The humble beginnings of the set reflect the band’s own humble origins. The manner in which the show exploded in the later stages may be an early indication of what is to come for the Indiana boys as their careers progress.
