Those who want to travel abroad are in a difficult situation. Citizens changed their vacation plans and started to search for ‘cheapest countries, cheapest resorts’. The UK-based Post Office institution has identified the 10 cheapest countries in Europe in 2020.

While conducting the ‘cheapest countries in 2020’ research, the costs of water, cola, dinner for two consisting of three kinds of food, a bottle of wine, a cup of coffee, glass of wine, a local beer, suntan cream, and insecticide were calculated.

Sunny Beach, Bulgaria is the cheapest location on the list at just £30.68. The rest of the top 10 on the list are:

  1. Marmaris, Turkey – £44.15
  2. Tokyo, Japan – £48.21
  3. Algarve, Portugal – £49.87
  4. Costa del Sol, Spain – £53.16
  5. Cape Town, South Africa – £59.39,
  6. Hoi An, Vietnam – £59.49,
  7. Bali, Indonesia – £61.43,
  8. Prague, Czech Republic – £63.02,
  9. Paphos, Cyprus – £63.22

Overall, the report found that prices have fallen by up to 10 per cent in 33 out of the 42 global destinations it analysed. They have also fallen by 21 per cent in Corfu, Greece. The main reason for this is a strengthened sterling, with the report finding this cut the cost of prices for British travellers in 19 of the destinations.

Post Office Travel Money’s head of travel, Nick Boden, said in a statement:

“With the price falls we found in destinations worldwide, holidaymakers will have plenty of choice in the coming year provided sterling holds its value.”

“In Europe the best deals are likely to be in Bulgaria, Turkey and Portugal, while further afield Japan, Vietnam and Bali are looking good bets for the bargain-hunter. The clear message is that holidaymakers should do their homework on resort prices before booking to be sure of the best deal.”

Only six currencies are stronger against sterling than a year ago; the Russian rouble, the Egyptian pound, the Thai baht, the Costa Rican colon, the Canadian dollar and the Indonesian rupiah -according to the report compiled by Post Office Travel Money.
