Firework Opening for i360 Abandoned
The planned fireworks to mark the opening of the Brighton i360 tonight have been called off in typically British fashion. The display to mark the launch of the world’s thinnest tall building has been abandoned due to poor weather in the English channel.
The first “flight” open to the general public on the 531ft (161m) British Airways i360 tower on the seafront was at 14:00 BST, with the projected fireworks show meant to happen tonight at 22:00 BST.
It had been planned for fireworks to be set off on a boat close by on Brighton beach but the boat in question has not been able to get to the desired location. Under-fire organisers blamed a storm off the Sussex coast which has caused high sea waters in the vicinity of the attraction.
The firework show will be rearranged to a future date with those having bought tickets being reassured there tickets will remain valid.
Jimmy’s Mysteriously Closes
Popular Brighton restaurant ‘Jimmy’s’ which is also the cities largest has closed down in mysterious circumstances. The restaurant served its final night on Sunday before shutting down without telling staff or customers who had booked that this was imminent.
Jimmy’s which opened last year to much excitement had a capacity of over 500 diners cooked for by 15 chefs who served over 1000 dishes.
Shocked staff turned up on Monday morning for work to find the doors closed and no explanations as to what was going on. Some staff allege a removal man was seen on site.
Yesterday a message appeared on Jimmy’s Facebook page which read: “We apologise for any inconvenience caused but our Brighton Restaurant will be closed until further notice.”
Kirsty Pollard, general manager at the Marina, said she was waiting for an update on what was happening.
This news comes of the back  that Blue Mango Indian Restaurant which was vacated above Jimmy’s has also closed.
Frustrated customers took to social media for answers with Claire Humphrey, from Worthing, posting: “Disgusting. Made a booking on July 31 and received a confirmation email the next day.
“Turned up with seven kids on August 1 for my daughter’s birthday and it was closed. No apologies, nothing.
“They are ignoring my emails and not picking up the phone.”
Millie Kirby added: “What’s going on with the Brighton store? Booked a table for a birthday party- turn up to an empty restaurant.”
Jade Henshaw had also booked a table at the restaurant.
She said: “This was obviously a shock to our party of 18. Thank you so much Jimmy’s for not letting us know.
“Hope you feel proud in knowing you nearly ruined a three year old’s birthday. Disgraceful.”
The outlets nine other restaurants when contacted seemed none the wiser as to why the chain had closed down.
