The first ‘what’s on’ of the year! There is still chance to catch a show and some exhibitions before we all go back to school and back to work. So here are a few things that are on this weekend.
The Ugly Duckling: The classic tale by Hans Christian Andersen reimagined with hand shadow puppetry from the creators of the sell-out show Small Fables. Finger and Thumb Theatre are putting on their final shows this weekend. With the expert trademark shadow puppetry from Drew Colby and live cello music played by Penny Callow, this show is the perfect way to finish off the Christmas holidays. Tickets are available here.
Pitschi, The Kitten With Dreams: Theatre Fidera Fideri presents Pitschi, the Kitten with Dreams described as a ‘touching tale full of good humour, adventure, live music and song’. Pitschi is a Swiss kitten with her brothers and sisters, Grandma Lisette and Bello the dog on a farm in the Swiss Alps. But Pitschi would rather be any other animal in the world as long as it isn’t the cat. Follow Pitschis adventure around the farm to meet the other animals. Tickets are available here. 
An Introduction to the Brighton Pavilion: Running on selected dates starting on the 2nd, be transported back in time at the Brighton Pavilion. The new public guided tours will see you learning about the architecture and decorative art of the Royal Pavilion as well as hearing stories of King George IV’s impressive banquets, balls and concerts attended by fashionable society and courtiers. Mr Booth’s Mini-Museum Explorers: A session for 2-5 olds that re-commences on January 1st. The session includes art activities, a museum expedition, a story and even handling some museum objects. The theme until January 8th is Winter Wonderland. You can find out more here.
The Snow Queen: After all the eating and (heavy) drinking we’ve done over the Christmas holidays, why not go for some culture this weekend and head to the ballet at the Brighton Dome? Gerda goes on a quest across the frozen north in search of her friend Kay. Only her love can free him and break the curse of eternal winter.
