You may have seen that the Queens Honours list has been released this year, consisting of stars such as Barbara Windsor, Idris Elba, Sue Barker and Chris Froome. However, did you know that we have some people from our very own Brighton and Hove receiving honours this year?
Those among them are Richard Tyler, who is a British Red Cross event first aid an emergency response manager, and will be rewarded a British Empire Medal. Deputy Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney will be rewarded the Queen’s Police Medal for distinguished service and her ex-colleague Paul Morrison will also receive the medal. Paul Morrison was former chief superintendent who retired in March but is now the police commissioner of Anguilla.
Artist Jane Short has been made an MBE for services to the art and craft of enameling. Not only does she have a workshop in Brighton but we are also lucky enough to see her work at the Hove Museum and Art Gallery. We also have two academics being honoured this year, with psycho-oncologist Lesley Fallowfield and art historian Maurice Howard. Professor Fallowfield becomes a dame for services to psycho-oncology and Professor Howard becomes an OBE for services to higher education and architectural heritage.
Timmy Lloyd Jones is a Cambridge University graduate and was the chief executive of the National Employment Savings Trust and is being made a CBE for services to the pensions industry and pension provision. John Fothergill will become an MBE for services to immigration and border management. Both John Fothergill and Timmy Lloyd Jones live here in Brighton.
