The Royal newlyweds, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, have officially been appointed as the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex – does this mean a visit to Brighton is on the cards?

After a beautiful wedding at Windsor Castle, that was watched by a staggering 28.4 million people in the UK alone, never mind the new Princesses home country of the United States, it has been officially released that The Queen has given the couple the new title. Whilst Harry is the second Duke of Sussex, Meghan will be the county’s first ever Duchess.

On the big day, Meghan stunned in a gorgeous gown, which was designed by Brit designer Clare Waight Keller, who is the artistic director of French fashion house, Givenchy. This was followed by a stunning Stella McCartney dress for the wedding reception.

In light of the new appointment, the bosses over at Brighton’s Royal Pavilion have issued an official invitation to the couple to visit what is easily the most lavish building in their new dukedom.

In an official statement, The Chair for Economic Development & Culture Committee, Alan Robins, has said “We are thrilled to have Harry and Meghan as the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex […] We think a visit to the Royal Pavilion would be the perfect start to getting to know the area. It is beautiful, lavish and fascinating and a perfect place for a romantic visit.”

A visit to Brighton’s Royal Pavilion seems perfectly fitting considering the building’s rich and royal history: King George IV originally commissioned the transformation of the building into the regal palace that we see today in 1815, and was intended to be his seaside residence.

Brighton and Hove’s new Mayor, Councillor Dee Simson, has also released a statement in which she congratulates the Duke and Duchess, as well as adding that she hopes “the happy couple will come to see our fantastic city as part of their new role.”
