Brighton Hove and Albion women’s team visit the Tottenham Hotspur at the Gaughan Group Stadium for their clash this Sunday. The Seagulls will want to gain all three points and bounce back after a narrow 2-1 loss to Everton last week in the Women’s Super League. As the season ends, both teams are looking to end positively in the league as we can expect a tight and competitive game. Written by Samuel Skedge
Tottenham has been in fine form recently and will be a difficult test for Albion. Spurs are unbeaten in their last three games in the league and will want to continue this momentum as they prepare for the upcoming FA Cup final. The north London side had to settle for a share of points with Manchester United, after conceding a late equaliser. Back-to-back goals scored by Bethany England and Jessica Naz resulted in a 2-2 draw for Spurs. Tottenham are sitting in a comfortable 6th position in the league table with a game in hand but may be focusing on their upcoming final in the coming weeks.
Despite Brighton’s loss last week, they remain determined to continue their recent away form and extend their unbeaten streak to three games. The seagulls will be, also looking to get revenge after their home loss to Tottenham earlier this season. A promising start from the hosts saw a punishing finish from Elisabeth Terland. However, Spurs were the stronger team and found goals from Martha Thomas, Grace Clinton and Ria Percival to secure a 3-1 victory.
Tottenham head coach Jan Robert Vilahamn confirmed that Celin Bizet will be ruled out of the Brighton clash. But Martha Thomas and Drew Spence aim to be in the squad for matchday.
Brighton Hove and Albion manager Mikey Harris’s team have sustained no new injuries since their last hosting Everton and should maintain a full-strength team against Spurs.
A victory for Brighton could see them leap to 7th in the Women’s Super League standings, depending on the result against Aston Villa.
Match predictions Brighton 1-0 win against Tottenham. Albion goalkeeper Sophie Baggaley is on top form and once again could see her pulling of the clean sheet. I predict Elisabeth Terland will score as she looks for her 13th goal this campaign.
