Luckily for us, what started as a drab overcast Thursday turned out to be an absolute shiner as we took to the streets to find out what our most stylish Brighton dwellers are wearing.
We began with a chat with cool cats Paul and Laurie, a couple from Southampton who regularly visit Brighton for the top notch shopping our wonderful city has to offer. Laurie told us ‘if we like it we buy it’. Well, it seems to be working for you two, keep it up.
Next we were drawn to smiley Flo with her relaxed Brighton student vibe and ‘more is more’ attitude to accessorising. We had an educational chat about the hard and fast fashion rules she lives by. We were told that she generally ‘balances out’ her outfit. Yeah we didn’t really know what she meant either so we enquired. Apparently this means if she is wearing a baggy item of clothing she ‘balances it out’ with a tight item of clothing to keep the shape and proportion of the outfit as a whole. Special mention to the gorgeous art nouveau poster tote.
Our next fashionista, Elizabeth visiting Brighton from Greece, had one of those infectious attitudes that left us smiling all the way through the Laines. Her equally wonderful daughter translated for us, however, Elizabeth made it clear through the universal language of confidence that she was born to be in front of this camera with every pose struck. Floral dress paired with trainers is a classic go to summer look. What we really loved about this look was the necklace, glasses, and pink lippy worn with a great big smile.
The ‘dungaree’ revolution has taken Brighton by storm over the recent summer months and we are absolutely loving it. Jade and Esther, who both work at Lucy and Yak, gave us a little bit of insight into why. It’s a ‘pocket’ thing. Both of these fabulous individuals are also wearing unisex clothes made from sustainable fabrics and say that being comfortable is top priority when choosing what to wear.
Introducing Georgie who has taken the plunge this year and committed to ‘not buying new’. She is looking marvellous in an outfit purchased from charity shops, vintage stores and various second hand sources, all except for her earrings. These super cute star shaped resin earrings are from Living at Fiveways, a local independent business in Brighton.
This weeks best dressed is our stylish student, Joshua who loves to wear unique pieces that he doesn’t expect to see other people wearing. According to Joshua the print on these dungarees are both a statement to ‘save the bees’ as well as a nod to his hometown, Manchester, where the city’s symbol is a worker bee. The coffin badge also opens up to reveal a man that we love to hate, Mr Burns from the Simpsons. I mean, wow.
