The coming of June can only mean one thing… Festival season is upon us ladies and gentlemen. Festivals are muddy and gross, we know, but who’s to say that should stop you from looking your finest as you wade through mud and cans of Strongbow dark fruits. We at Brighton Journal want to help you look your best throughout the sun, wind and (inevitable) rain.

Invest In A Hat

Not showering for 3-5 days means one thing – bad hair days everyday. Why not conceal the mess that is your hair in style? And what better way to do that than with a hat. Whether you’re into dad hats, bucket hats or fedoras, a hat will be your best friend at any festival you attend this year. Protecting you from torrid winds, heatstroke and any rain that may come, a hat is simply a summer essential. Check out vintage shops or take a look through your dads old stuff for authentic festival coolness.

#TBT

“Sports chic” may be popular on the festival circuit with the upper middle class teens choosing to revive old school brands such as Fila and Ellesse but why not go down a different route? Boast true festival vibes by dressing more 70s boho than chavvy chic no no. Go for floaty dresses, flared sleeves and floral prints for a true throwback to the golden age of Goldie Hawn.

Heavy Metal

There are so many ways to make a statement this festival. One of the easiest of which is earrings. Get yourself some statement earrings put your hair up and let them do the talking. This way you don’t have to faff around with hair garlands and the like.

Throw Some Shade

If you’re lucky, the festival you’re at will actually be sunny. If you’re not much of a hat person, and even if you are, sunglasses are a festival must have. What’s the point in going to see your favourite band if you can’t even see them? Switch out your plain old sunnies for something that makes a statement. Pair with a basic playsuit and jewellery and you’re done! Hot tip: Tinted aviators and early 00s vibes are key this festival season.

Become A Biker

Trapesing through mud all weekend really isn’t fun and it’s even less fun when you don’t have the right footwear. Being practical is essential, so unless you’re going to some Coachella-esque festival abroad then don’t even think about packing those gladiator sandals. You’ll need something comfy and with grip and this is where the classic biker boot comes in. Biker boots may seem clunky but they really are so versatile. Cool down a delicate tea dress with chunky black boots that show you aren’t one to be messed with. Or pair with classic levi cut offs and band tees for a more edgy look.
