From modern jazz music to reggae-pop fusion, Brighton and Hove has a plethora of music booked for this week. Brighton Journal has located some of the best gigs available, with an eclectic range of genres being exhibited in venues all over the city.
Darwin Deez @ Komedia, Tuesday 2nd October
New York-based, indie pop artist, Darwin Deez, returns to Brighton with his recent fourth album, ’10 Songs That Happened When You Left Me With My Stupid Heart’. His music sends listeners into respite through the mellow tones of his songwriting. Deez has commenced his UK and US tour with multiple dates with a set including his well-known songs from his previous work.

Mark Lanegan and Duke Garwood @ The Old Market, Wednesday 3rd October
The Old Market will host Mark Lanegan and Duke Garwood for the Brighton show of their European tour. ‘With Animals’ is their second album together that explores atmospheric melodies through guitar and piano. The night will feature a headline show from Lanegan, Garwood and their band, with a guest performance by Lyenn.

Joe Armon-Jones @ Patterns, Thursday 4th October
Joe Amon-Jones and his band will bring an explosion of sound to Patterns, presented by Mr Bongo and the Jazz Club. Armon-Jones is engaging the new wave of Jazz music flowing around the country with his six-piece band, breaking away from the genre’s traditions by combining the music with Hip-Hop and Dub. His album, ‘Starting Today’, was released earlier this year, and includes a mixture of upbeat and calming tunes.

Hollie Cook @Concorde 2, Friday 5th October
After selling out at The Haunt earlier this year, Hollie Cook is back in Brighton with a headline show at Concorde 2. Her music encompassed a range of genres including Reggae, Pop, and Dub to create an individualised sound led by her sweet and smooth vocals. She will perform widely from her repertoire, including from her most recent album, ‘Vessel of Love’.

Island Club @ Patterns, Saturday 6th October
Island Club are booked to start your Saturday night at Patterns with music that makes you want to dance. The band intend on sending you into a trance with their catchy pop songs, including their self-titled EP released over summer this year. They will be accompanied with support from other local bands, Twilight Driving and DIY band, Safe To Swim.

Men I Trust @ The Hope and Ruin, Sunday 7th October
Canadian band, Men I Trust, will finish off your week at The Hope and Ruin, along with support from Tess Roby. The three-piece indie band have embarked on their European tour and will follow that with a multi-date US and Candian tour. They recently released their single, ‘Seven’, featuring steady, floating guitar melodies and an effortlessly tight-knit rhythm section.
