Live Witchcraft, snakes, giant bugs and much more: family-friendly activities in Brighton Museums

Brighton Museum is hosting a wide range of family events during all summer, with the aim of entertain and teach children from all ages and their families about many different topics.

Picture Time and Story’ and ‘Arty Crafty Club’, both in Hove Museum, will allow children to use craft materials to create pictures based on faces that can be found in the museum and to construct, draw, paint or print and learn about other making methods; ‘Mr Booth’s Mini-Museum Explorers‘, at the Booth Museum, will provide children from 2 to 5 with art and museum related activities, such as an expedition, a story and handling some museum objects. The Booth Museum will also host the ‘Jaws ‘n’ Claws’ event, with live mini-beast handling including snakes, lizards and giant bugs; at Hove Museum will take place also the ‘Feathered Friends’ workshop, where children will have the possibility to create their own bird with paint, collage, sticking and junk modelling.

Sports will be involved too: on National Croquet Day, on Sunday 5 June, in Preston Manor Lawns and Preston Croquet Club, members of Preston Croquet Club will host an ‘open day’ with refreshments to celebrate the croquet modern revival that has been taking place in the last years.
Preston Manor will also host ‘The Secret Garden’, a costumed story-telling session inspired by the children’s classic, together with a guided visit to a real secret garden.
The highlights of the season will be the ‘Witchcraft Live!’, Saturday 18 June at Preston Manor Walled Garden, where families will have the possibility to experience an authentic, family-friendly Pagan ceremony and come away with a spell to health, prosperity or love, and ‘Science for the People’, a series of short interactive talks by researchers from the University of Sussex exploring how the public participated in 19th century science (free but booking essential via
