Calling all local musicians and singers aged 10-25! Brighton Dome is hosting a special fundraising event in November, a ‘fast and furious’ Music Marathon, for encore and Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival.
Supporting the next generation of musical talent in Brighton & Hove, this Music Marathon will take place on Saturday 17th November between 10am and 6pm at the Brighton Dome Foyer. Musicians and singers aged 10-25 wishing to take part in the Music Marathon will need to register before Monday 17th September.
Once registered, performers will be free to play or sing whatever they like… just as long as it’s suitable for a family audience!
Brighton is one of the most creative cities in the UK and each week across every Brighton & Hove school, over 4,000 young people of all abilities are taught by Brighton & Hove Music & Arts (BHMA), and encore is the fundraising network for all the young musicians supported by BHMA.
In July 2017 Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival joined forces with BHMA, and together they provide music and arts education, performance and touring opportunities for children and young people across the city.
As a registered charity, the Brighton Dome aims to champion the power of the arts, to enrich and change lives, and inspire and enable artists to be their most creative. It commissions and supports both emerging and established artists and companies, enabling them to develop, take risks and deliver work of the highest quality.
Subsequently, each year sees the Brighton Dome & Brighton Festival present over 600 events spanning music, theatre, dance, comedy, literature, spoken word, visual arts, film, digital and more, including producing the internationally-acclaimed Brighton Festival in May.
Now this Music Marathon, which will be held at the Brighton Dome, presents a fantastic opportunity for young people to perform at the south coast’s leading multi-arts venue!
Speaking about the Brighton Dome Music Marathon, Project Manager for the Music Marathon, Bec Britain, describes the event as “fast, furious and entertaining!”:
She states: “There’s a powerful message in young musicians and singers who’ve received support publicly fundraising to ensure the next generation can have the same opportunities.
“Anyone aged between 10-25 who is confident to perform in front of an audience for 5 or 10 minutes can register. We want this event to be accessible to musicians, singers and music producers and will welcome any genre, so performers can be solo or part of a group and acoustic or amplified (as long as they can plug into a basic backline and play with no sound check!). For performers, this is a great opportunity to play or sing at Brighton Dome (after all, you never know who’s watching) and to be involved in what we hope will be a really dynamic event.
“Our 8-hour marathon is made up of lots of performers each playing short slots back to back. The idea is that they are literally queuing up to perform and handing straight from one to the next. It should create a fast-paced, exciting and surprising musical mix.”
The Music Marathon is supported by The Pebble Trust and BIMM Brighton.

The funds raised from the Music Marathon provide support for:
The Hardship Fund for young musicians who could not otherwise afford to be involved in music making and lessons. This includes attending orchestras, ensembles and going on tour.
Orchestra 360, an inclusive ensemble with specialist teaching, adapted instruments and performance opportunities.
Master-Classes offering talented young musicians individual tuition that could make all the difference to their future career.
Specialist instruments purchased and maintained for all BHMA ensembles and bespoke creative learning projects working with young musicians.
The funds raised will also provide support for SPECTRUM music events, which is Brighton Dome’s music project that is dedicated to nurturing local music talent, cultivating Brighton’s vibrant music scene and providing affordable concerts in a professional setting (supported by The Pebble Trust and GM Building).
SPECTRUM will be represented on the day by returning musicians who have performed at previous SPECTRUM concerts at the Brighton Dome and who will be taking part in the Music Marathon themselves.
With a rich history spanning over 200 years and located in the Royal Pavilion Estate in the cultural heart of the city, the Brighton Dome provides an extraordinary space in which to bring the arts alive!
