Ocean Film Festival will be returning to Brighton for one night in October to offer inspiring ocean-themed films from all over the world. As a beach resort town, Brighton is intrinsically linked to the sea and forms a large part of its cultural identity. The festival returns for its fifth edition this year with over 35 tour dates across the UK and Ireland.
Brighton Journal spoke to Rosie Fuller, Tour Coordinator of the Ocean Film Festival World Tour, about what people can expect from the evening. “Brighton is a great venue for us, and one of the first we visited with the UK tour. The show is really well received by all of the ocean lovers in Brighton, and we can’t wait to be back.”
Over 450 films were submitted to the festival from all over the world. This made competition tough to achieve the festival premiere status, but also a challenge for Rosie and the team to ensure the highest quality films were selected. Rose highlighted how the festival prioritises great cinematography, storytelling, and variety, as this year’s films include rowing in ‘Kiwi Breeze’ and surfing in ‘The Big Wave Project’.

Ocean Film Festival recognises the significance of media influence to project a powerful message. Rosie said: “The film ‘Blue’, which has been one of the most popular with audiences so far, captures the stark realities of what’s happening to our oceans today, while also offering a passionately hopeful alternative.”
Understanding of oceanic environmental issues has gained widespread attention recently due to the popularity of documentaries such as ‘Planet Earth’ and ‘Blue Planet’. Rosie explained: “Awareness of the effects that modern life is having on our oceans and the whole of our planet, is rapidly increasing. More and more people are realising that now is the time to act if we are to make a difference before it’s too late.”
“The Ocean Film Festival World Tour is a fun and adrenaline-filled night out, and audiences are guaranteed to leave inspired to have an ocean adventure of their own as well! And there’s even a free prize draw for lots of ocean goodies.”
Ocean Film Festival will be at Brighton Dome on 11th October at 7.30pm. Tickets from £13.50. For more information and to book tickets, visit their website.
