Last week we brought you the 7 worst things about living in Brighton in Summer, but this week we’re back to our usual positivity telling you the 7 things that we love about living in our seaside city in summer!
1. It Feels Like You’re On Holiday
With the beach on our doorstep and the sun shining down on the sea, it’s easy to feel like you’ve been transported abroad (with a little imagination). Grab a deckchair or a towel, get your ‘kini on and sit back and absorb the rays. As much as we may complain about seagulls, hoards of tourists and the like, living by the sea is definitely one of the biggest perks of living in Brighton during the hotter months.
2. Beer Gardens, Glorious Beer Gardens
Brighton being a pretty boozy place as it goes, there are plenty of beer gardens to choose from. Surely one of the best things about Brighton in summertime has to be relaxing in the bright back end of a pub with a refreshing pint of something local!
3. The Wind Cools Us Down
Though it may not always be our favourite thing about living in Brighton, the wind can certainly be a blessing when the UK is going through heatwaves. There’s nothing like a cold breeze on the back of your neck to alleviate some of that summer sweat. Even if it means skirts blowing up in the wind and having cooler temperatures than London, we have to say we’re grateful for the wind right now…
4. Parks & Picnics
With plenty of parks to choose from, Brighton is one of the best places to get together for a picnic. Even if you don’t fancy a picnic, parks are a great place to escape the busyness of the seaside and play games with friends and family.
5. It’s Pride Season!
Arguably Brighton’s biggest event of the season, the countdown to Pride has begun! Welcoming an estimated 300,000 visitors over the August weekend, Pride is one of the main attractions that Brighton is known, and loved, for. The annual event involves marches, arts and music performances as well as the Village Party in Kemptown, which is recognised as the biggest Pride party in the UK of its kind. Nothing’s better than seeing streams of people come together to celebrate something as important as Pride, and we get to be a part of it!
6. Buskers Are Out In Full Force
Every Brightonian knows that if you step into Pavilion Gardens you’ll almost certainly come across some kind of street performer. Whether it’s an eccentric pianist dressed as a zebra or someone playing percussion on pots and pans, there’s sure to be someone to keep you entertained on your lunch break. Brighton wouldn’t be Brighton without its eclectic array of talented street artists and we love it!
7. The City Is Full Of Life
As much as we may complain about the busyness of Brighton in summer, you can’t deny it gives the city a sense of life it doesn’t have at other times of year. We’re grateful to play host to so many day trippers, visitors and holiday makers, even if it makes our streets a little more packed for a few months!
