Last week, Brighton said farewell to Poison Ivy, one of the city’s most popular LGBT-friendly nightspots. Its five-year stint came to an end with a rowdy seven-hour party on 5 March featuring Brighton’s best and brightest queens including Electric Blue, Candi Rell and Linda Bacardi.
Just eight days later, the St. James’ Street bar is re-opening as Priscilla’s – a gay karaoke and cabaret venue. Fans of Poison Ivy took to Facebook to share their excitement, with one writing: “yes! looks fabulously camp”.
Poison Ivy boss Lee Cockshott, who will be managing Priscilla’s, told Gscene Magazine the new venue would be more traditional. He said: “We are trying to recreate the feel of a typical cabaret bar up north, so all cabaret will be mime and lip synching only, just like in the good old days.”
Priscilla’s will be throwing an opening party tonight from 9 pm, starting with a bubbles and canapés reception before comedy cabaret from Mrs. Moore (pictured below).
It will be open from 6 pm until midnight Mondays to Thursdays and from 2 pm until midnight Fridays to Sundays.
