We are now a good way into December, and the festive celebrations are now in full swing and whilst it may be quite overwhelming, you can survive the parties, work events and family traditions with just a little bit of preparation. These tips will stop you from crashing and burning this party season.

Food: Christmas is the perfect excuse to stray from your diet and by all means treat yourself, but when you’re partying more than usual, you’ll want to be a bit healthier to avoid the terrible hangovers. A coconut water smoothie the morning after will help restore and hydrate your body. Try the following:

  • ½ Banana, spinach,
  • ½ cucumber,
  • great lakes collagen powder,
  • 1tsp maca, ginger,
  • flaxseeds
  • coconut water.

You should also make sure you’re eating liver friendly foods to balance out the terrible things you are doing to it after the fifth shot of tequila. Foods such as broccoli, kale, Brussel sprouts, watercress, cabbage and cauliflower are all lovely for your poor liver. To avoid over-indulging on your post-night out feast, stock up on wholemeal bread, avocado, eggs and nut butter as these will stop you from hitting the grease after a night out, they are also great for hangovers in the morning.

Alcohol: Give your liver a hand by drinking tea involving milk thistle, dandelion or artichoke before bed as this helps support your liver as it breaks down the alcohol in your system. Red wine has it’s redeeming qualities, for example the heart-healthy antioxidants it contains, and a simple spirit with something such as soda water is low in calories and sugar. Also, drink a glass of water for every unit of alcohol you consume, this will re-hydrate your body and probably prevent you from drinking too much because otherwise you’d end up running to the loo every ten minutes.

Sleep: So many late nights mean you miss out on much needed sleep so don’t be afraid to invest in certain aids to help you sleep. Things such as lavender oil have been proven to increase the depth of your slumber and help you drift off, vital for that busy mind after a night out. There are also so many sleepy teas that are supposed to help you fall asleep, particularly ones with chamomile or valerian in.
